Hi-Plains recap Oct. 3, 2012
Meade extended the longest winning streak in Hi-Plains this week by beating Stanton County, 28-6. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Buffaloes.
Cimarron and Larned/Pawnee Heights played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Cimarron eventually emerging with a 20-19 victory. Ty Clark ran for 123 yards in the win.
Elkhart's dynamic duo of AJ Mckinley and Nick Lewis proved tough for Sublette to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Mckinley threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns and Lewis had 113 yards receiving. Jordan Forbit helped Elkhart's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 62 yards.
Trevin Wiens was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 238 yards as Meade topped the Larks. Teammate Chris Hardaway added to the ground attack by rushing for 102 yards.
Elkhart's Alex Gomez and Forbit have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Hi-Plains in both passing and receiving yards. Gomez has thrown for 1001 yards this season, while Forbit, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 24 catches for 483 yards. Clark from the Bluejays leads the league in rushing with 827 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Buffaloes take on Syracuse. Meade's offense has scored 224 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Bulldogs have allowed only 272 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Khris Buckner's team takes on Cimarron. At the moment, the Wildcats are in third, while the Bluejays are in fourth.
Cimarron made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,513 from 9,289. The improvement was the result of 20-19 victory over the Indians last week.
