Sagamore recap October 1, 2013
North Montgomery's Jeremy Johnson recorded the longest rushing play in Sagamore this season in his game against Crawfordsville last week. Johnson's team defeated the Athenians as he sprinted for 80 yards on the play and finished with 129 in all.
Lebanon added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Danville, 10-2. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Jalen West threw for 95 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 8-11 with 0 interception.
Logan Wethington was a passing and rushing force as Western Boone topped Southmont. He completed 10 passes for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 60 yards. Wethington's key target this week was Riggs Baxter, who caught 7 passes for 125 yards.
West put up the best numbers through the air as North Montgomery bested Crawfordsville. West's favorite target this week was Joel Kauth, who caught 2 passes for 41 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Travis Harris of Mike Hammons' team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 723. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Baxter. The Western Boone star has 20 catches for 460 yards.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Charley German's team takes on Lebanon. The Chargin' Chargers' offense has recorded 196 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Kent Wright's team has permitted only 36 on the year.
The Tigers' Jamason Wright is a mere 87 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Wright has rushed for 913 yards on 198 carries so far this year.
An important game coming up in Sagamore this week will be when Lebanon takes on the Chargin' Chargers. As it stands, the Tigers are in first, while North Montgomery is in fourth.
