LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
Savannah Chalfant of
Gilmer (Ellijay, Ga.) High School is this week's MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week for contests played September 14-20.
Chalfant tossed a no-hitter, did not allow a run and was 2-0 with a save helping her squad to a 3-0 week. The right-handed hurler posted a pair complete-game shutouts, struck out 33 and surrendered three hits in 16 innings of work. In her second start of the week, Chalfant twirled a 13-strikeout no-no with three walks in a 3-0 triumph over LaFayette. A day earlier, the senior captain struck out 15 in a three-hit shutout of Cartersville. Chalfant capped off the week and preserved a 3-2 win against Southeast Whitfield County with a two-inning, no-hit in which she recorded five of six outs via a punchout. For the week, she held her opponents to a .059 batting average and also went 3-for-3 in the win against LaFayette.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week's award.
The MaxPreps/NFCA High School Players of the Week are announced on NFCA.org every Monday during the spring season, with one representative chosen from each of five separate high school regions. During the fall campaign, just a single player will be selected representing all participating regions.
