How things can change in less than a decade.
Atascocita (Humble, Texas) opened in August of 2006. This year the Eagles claimed their first district championship, put together a perfect 16-0 record in District 13-5A, won their first playoff game, and then made a run to the Class 5A Region II final before falling to
Allen (Texas) 65-58.

A big piece of this success was the play of 6-foot-5, 195-pound small forward
Joe Burton.
The Eagles finished the year 29-7 overall. They took a 17-game winning streak into the regional final, with their last loss before falling to Allen coming against
Plano West (Texas) in December.
Burton averaged 17 points per game in their five game playoff run, exploding for a game-high 30 points and nine rebounds while bouncing
Berkner (Richardson, Texas) from the playoffs in the 5A Region II semifinals, 71-49.
The Oklahoma State signee is ranked as the No. 69 recruit overall by
247sports. Burton choose Oklahoma State over two other finalists: Oklahoma and Oregon.
