R.J. Barrett and
Andrew Nembhard combined for 43 points as
Montverde Academy (Fla.) held off
Bishop Montgomery (Torrance, Calif.) 73-67 on Monday at the Spalding Hoophall Classic.
Nembhard led all scores with 22 points while Barrett, regarded by some as the top 2018 prospect in high school basketball, finished with 21 as the Eagles capped a challenging weekend with a big win.
Montverde Academy went 2-1 at the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions in Springfield, Mo., beating Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) in the third-place game Saturday.
Then the Eagles headed to Springfield, Mass., for the meeting with Bishop Montgomery and improved to 15-2 on the season. Both losses came at the hands of Memphis East (Memphis, Tenn.).
Bishop Montgomery (16-2) was led by junior guard
David Singleton with 20 points. The Knights entered the contest ranked No. 16 in the High School Top 25.

Sophomore Andrew Nembhard led all scorers Monday with 22 points.
