There may not be a hotter team in the country right now than
Trinity (Louisville, Ky.).
For the third straight game, the nation's fifth-ranked team was frighteningly dominant as it traveled to Cincinnati and hammered
Elder (Cincinnati, Ohio) 56-7. Elder came in ranked 48th nationally and No. 7 in Ohio.
Trinity's potent offense got started early, marching down the field on its opening possession and scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run by
Dalyn Dawkins, who finished with 17 carries and 124 yards and two scores.
The Shamrocks quickly intercepted Elder quarterback Ben Gramke and scored again when
Travis Wright found
James Quick for a 30-yard touchdown. Wright finished 14 of 18 for 177 yards and two scores, while Quick had seven catches for 143 yards and three touchdowns, one on a fumble recovery in the end zone.
The duo, which has connected early and often so far this season, hooked up two more times in the second quarter, giving Trinity a 28-0 lead heading into halftime.
After Elder went three and out on its first possession of the second half, Trinity added another score. This time, it was Dawkins, with his second score of the night. He gave Trinity a 35-0 lead early in the third quarter, putting the game well out of reach.
Trinity finished with 586 yards to 181 for Elder, marking the second week in a row that the winners have piled up more than 550 yards.
