HOOVER, Ala. -
Hoover (Ala.) kept up a steady attack all game long to upset
Opelika (Ala.), 30-7, on Saturday.
The Buccaneers were up 21-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Connor Short to
Michael Powers in the first quarter.
Hoover expanded its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. HHS scored once in the quarter on a
Taylor Brown touchdown run.
With the win the Buccaneers extended their winning streak to 11 games. Hoover defeated the Wildcats 28-10 last week.
HHS's standout player in the win was Short. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs'
Jakell Mitchell played well. The junior tight end ran for one touchdown. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
Opelika's lone touchdown came on a 6-yard run by Mitchell in the fourth quarter.
Led by
Marlon Humphrey, the Buccaneers came into the game allowing 7.6 points per game. The seven points that OHS ended with were well below its average of 29.2 coming into the game.
Hoover (11-0) faces off against Shades Valley in a non-conference game its next time out. The Mounties enter the contest having posted a 4-5.
