Mid-Penn - Commonwealth recap November 5, 2013
Tyler Updegraff of Cumberland Valley ran for the longest rushing play in Mid-Penn - Commonwealth this season against State College last week. Updegraff's team beat the Little Lions as he sprinted for 87 yards on the play and finished with 205 in all.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Central Dauphin beat Central Dauphin East 17-14. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Rams.
Updegraff was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 205 yards as Cumberland Valley bested the Panthers. Tim Spinelli also contributed to the rushing game with 49 yards on the ground.
6-foot-3 quarterback pat irwin of State College is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,333. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Curtis Jerzerick. The Mifflin County star has 15 catches for 474 yards.
Mifflin County's Heath Hidlay needs only 90 yards against Al Wolski's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Hidlay has rushed for 910 yards on 162 carries so far this year.
Next week's game between the Little Lions and the Huskies will feature an aerial matchup as irwin tests his arm against John Michael Maclay's defensive ability.
One of Mid-Penn - Commonwealth's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when State College and Mifflin County face off next week.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Michael Whitehead's team takes on Harrisburg. The Eagles are in first place, while the Cougars are in seventh place.
Chambersburg was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Trojans defeated George Miskinis' team 28-7.
