Bishop McGuinness (Oklahoma City, Okla.) teammates
Matt Christiansen and
Joe Edmonds have given verbal commitments to the University of San Francisco.
Christiansen, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound power forward, is regarded as one of the state's top 2012 prospects and also received interest from Davidson, Penn State, Seton Hall and Stanford among others.
With a roster that included 10 freshmen and sophomores, San Francisco finished third in the West Coast Conference last season under third-year head coach Rex Walters. It marked the first 10-win season in league play since 1982.
"I definitely got the vibe that they were a program on the rise, especially with the addition of the new athletic director from Syracuse (Scott Sidwell)," Christiansen said. "Everything he stood for was exactly what Joe and I were looking for in a college. He was so inspired."
Edmonds is a 6-5, 205-pound small forward.
"Joe and I are good allies on the court and it's the same off the court," Christiansen said. "I definitely consider him one of my best friends."
Christiansen and Edmonds are also teammates with Oklahoma-based club Athletes First, which has produced standouts like Blake Griffin, Xavier Henry, Daniel Orton and Ekpe Udoh in recent years.
