Coaches Game Summary

Turner Hartley pitched six strong innings to carry Granada to a 2-1 win over Castro Valley to open up the 2014 season on Tuesday. Sawyer Olson had a strong day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits, doubling in the first and fifth innings. Casey Soltis ignited the Matador offense, scoring both of the game's runs and leading off the bottom half of the first with a triple in the gap, coming around to score on a Chris Moussa single. Castro Valley managed to score one run, with a fifth inning solo home run from their third baseman. Granada countered back in the bottom half of the fifth on an RBI double by Sawyer Olson, scoring Casey Soltis, to put the Matadors ahead 2-1. Hartley pitched a scoreless sixth, then after giving up two hits to start the seventh, Robert Chioino came on and got Tyler Lee out on a line drive. Brandon Jefferis then was called upon to close out the came, recording strikeout and game-ending ground out.
