The Poly Panthers baseball team scored 11 runs and limited the visiting Maranatha Minutemen to 3 in the Panthers non-league victory on Friday.

The Panthers (6-5) will now prepare for their match against Chadwick (Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA). The Dolphins go into the Prep match with a 4-3 record. In their last match, Chadwick was overwhelmed by Bishop Montgomery (Torrance, CA), 5-2, in a non-league match.

The Minutemen (8-5) will now prepare for their match against Whittier Christian (La Habra, CA). The Heralds go into the Olympic match with a 4-9 record. In their last match, Whittier Christian ran past Cabrillo (Long Beach, CA), 5-4, in a non-league match.

Poly concluded the first half of its season and entered spring break with a flourish, defeating Maranatha (ranked 8th in Div 5 this week) behind a balanced 11-hit attack, strong pitching, and great defense. Chris Ward shut out the Minutemen on 3 hits over the first 5 innings, finishing with 9 strikeouts and no walks in 6 innings. At the plate for the Panthers, Brad Olson had 2 hits and 3 RBI, Jonah Campbell and Logan Beerman each had 2 RBI, and 9 different players collected hits including Luke Asperger's two singles, Michael Bowman's double off the roof in center field, and J.P. Olinski's RBI single. Beerman also made three tremendous plays at shortstop, ranging far to both sides, including snagging a line drive up the middle to start a game-ending double play.
