The Cupertino Pioneers (Cupertino, CA) softball nipped the visiting Mountain View Spartans (Mountain View, CA), 3-2 in Tuesday's league bout.

The Pioneers (5-9) will now prepare for their bout against Saratoga (Saratoga, CA). The Falcons go into the El Camino bout with a 2-10 record. In their last bout, Saratoga held off Lynbrook (San Jose, CA), 10-9, in a league bout.

The Spartans now possess a 4-9 record. They play next when they host Lynbrook for a El Camino bout on Thursday, April 5. Mountain View will confront a Vikings squad coming off a 10-9 league loss to Saratoga (Saratoga, CA). The Vikings record now stands at 0-9.

The Cupertino Pioneers managed to do all that they needed to do in the entire game in the 7th inning against the Mountain View Spartans. In that one inning of play, they scored 3 runs on 3 hits, and forced 3 Spartan errors. Their gritty play ended the game with a walk-off, 2 RBI, double by Junior Jacqueline Kim into the right center gap.

Through 6 innings, Mountain View dominated play against the scrappy Cupertino team. Freshman hurler Athena Bolin seemed to be more than they could handle until that 7th inning barrage. It wasn't until the 7th inning that the Pioneers put more than one runner on base. Bolin had excellent control as she struck out 4 and walked only 1. But unfortunately for her, the Spartan defense saved the worst for last. With three infield errors, the Spartans gave life to the Cupertino offense and kept the game going. Bolin did all she could, providing two infield flies, but the errors proved to be too much to overcome.
