The Carver Montgomery Wolverines (Montgomery, AL) basketball nipped the visiting Lanier Poets (Montgomery, AL), 52-49 in Friday's league test.

The Wolverines (9-11) will now prepare for their test against Stanhope Elmore (Millbrook, AL). The Mustangs go into the 6A Area 3 test with a 7-12 record. In their last test, Stanhope Elmore was tipped by Wetumpka (Wetumpka, AL), 64-62, in a non-league test.

The Poets now own a 9-10 record. They play next when they travel to Tallassee for a non-league test on Monday, January 8. Lanier will encounter a Tigers squad coming off a 55-43 non-league win over Marbury (Marbury, AL). The Tigers record now stands at 9-10.
