January 11, 2025: Galena, IL 61036 The crowd at Saturday's non-league challenge between the Marquette Defenders (Bellevue, IA) and the host Galena Pirates (Galena, IL), observed Marquette's basketball team knock off Galena by a score of 72-62.
The Defenders (10-0) will now prepare for their challenge against Maquoketa Valley (Delhi, IA). The Wildcats come into the non-league challenge with a 7-3 record. In their last challenge, Maquoketa Valley prevailed over Central (Elkader, IA), 58-50, in a non-league challenge.
In their next game, the Pirates encounter the Scales Mound Hornets (Scales Mound, IL) in a Northwest Upstate Illini - West challenge, on Wednesday, January 15. Galena will attempt to improve on its 12-7 season record. The Hornets come into the challenge with a 6-9 record after their 59-46 league loss to East Dubuque (East Dubuque, IL).
