January 18, 2025: Oxford, MS 38655 Lafayette Commodores (Oxford, MS) supporters left the game satisfied Saturday as they witnessed their basketball squad triumph over the visiting Myrtle Hawks (Myrtle, MS), 66-35 in a non-league match.
With the victory, Lafayette advances its record to 11-9 on the year. The Commodores host New Hope (Columbus, MS) to face the Trojans in a 5A Region 1 match on Tuesday, January 21. The Trojans enter the match with a record of 11-5. New Hope lost 61-29 in their recent league match against Pontotoc (Pontotoc, MS)
The Hawks now own a 8-14 record. They put it on the line next when they host Falkner for a 1A Region 2 match on Friday, January 24. Myrtle will face a Eagles squad coming off a 61-36 league win over Myrtle (Myrtle, MS). The Eagles record now stands at 12-6.
