First Quarter
The team got off to a fast start before a noisy crowd. Ana hit a 3 pt shot and Jeanine hit 2 consecutive free throws after being fouled in the act of shooting. Alana hit an outside 2 pt and Lilliana came off the bench in the latter part of qtr and managed 2 pts on a fast break. Emily who started the game after coming off the bench in the last few games converted 1 of 2 free-throws to give us a lead of 12 to 3 at the end of one quarter. The guards put pressure on their ball handlers and the team played overall good defense making it difficult on the opponents to get wide open shots.
Second Quarter
We lost all focus and intensity in the 2nd qrt. They full court pressed us and we were unable to break it. We over dribbled the ball and did not protect the ball. We gave up 12 points which permitted them to get back in the ball game. We led by one at halftime 16 to 15. Jeanine hit 1 of two free-throws after an offensive rebound and Emily hit a long 3 pt shot. We played terrible defense and had too many turnovers. The team panicked and threw the ball away leading to easy baskets for our opponents.
Third Quarter
The 3rd qrt was hard fought by both sides. Players from both teams were diving for loose balls and playing with renewed energy. Alexis entered in minute 4 of the qrt and scored 4 very much needed pts and Ana scored a 2 pt shot and a free-throw to close the qrt 23 to 18 in our favor. A very welled played quarter with the team focused and a sense of urgency.
Fourth Quarter
We played well in the 4th quarter but at times made silly turnovers allowing the opponents to come within 3 pts of tying us. We hurried ill advice shots during crunch time and almost had the lead slip away. Janine and Lilliana fouled out with 5 minutes left. Natalia and Alexis filled in nicely. The team settled down and played better in the latter part of the qrt when Ana hit a huge 3 pt shot and a 2-point shot. We ran a play after a time out with a minute left in which Emily was fouled in a penalty situation. She hit 2 out of 4 free-throws in the final minute to seal the victory with a final score of 30 to 25 for the team's 12 consecutive victory.
