Mathews Mustangs (Vienna, OH) backers were pleased Friday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Maplewood Rockets (Cortland, OH), 54-48 in a league bout.

With the victory, Mathews upgrades its record to 11-6 on the campaign. The Mustangs travel to Chalker (Southington, OH) to play the Wildcats in a Northeastern bout on Tuesday, January 31. The Wildcats come into the bout with a record of 5-12. Chalker lost 70-35 in their recent league bout against Bristol (Bristolville, OH)

Next up, the Rockets play the Badger Braves (Kinsman, OH) in a Northeastern bout, on Tuesday, January 31. Maplewood will attempt to upgrade on its 5-10 season record. The Braves come into the bout with a 14-3 record after their 64-43 league win over St. John (Ashtabula, OH).
