The Leake County Gators basketball squad (Walnut Grove, MS), was outscored 65-50 in Monday's non-league battle with the host Piney Woods Tornadoes (Piney Woods, MS)

With the victory, Piney Woods advances its record to 10-3 on the year. The Tornadoes host Taylorsville (Taylorsville, MS) to meet the Tartars in a 1A Region 7 battle on Thursday, January 30. The Tartars enter the battle with a record of 11-12. Taylorsville won 77-34 in their recent league battle against Stringer (Stringer, MS)

The Gators now own a 12-8 record. They put it on the line next when they host Mississippi School for the Deaf for a 1A Region 7 battle on Wednesday, January 29. Leake County will meet a Bulldogs squad coming off a 55-17 league loss to Mount Olive (Mount Olive, MS). The Bulldogs record now stands at 2-18.
