In Thursday's non-league match, the host Chaparral Firebirds basketball team scored a good 53-40 triumph over the Copper Canyon Aztecs.

In their next game, the Firebirds meet the Cactus Shadows Falcons (Cave Creek, AZ) in a 5A Northeast Valley match, on Friday, February 2. Chaparral will attempt to better on its 4-15 season record.
