The crowd at Friday's league challenge between the Laney Buccaneers (Wilmington, NC) and the host Topsail Pirates (Hampstead, NC), observed Laney's basketball team overwhelm Topsail by a score of 75-41.

The Buccaneers (14-8) will now prepare for their challenge against New Hanover (Wilmington, NC). The Wildcats come into the Carolina Coast 6A/7A/8A challenge with a 14-6 record.

In their next game, the Pirates battle the Ashley Screaming Eagle (Wilmington, NC) in a Carolina Coast 6A/7A/8A battle, on Monday, February 9. Topsail will attempt to advance on its 5-16 season record. The Screaming Eagle enter the battle with a 4-16 record after their 74-38 league loss to New Hanover (Wilmington, NC).
