Florida High School Basketball - Columbus trounces Deerfield Beach
February 24, 2023: Deerfield Beach, FL 33441 The Columbus Explorers (Miami, FL) basketball crushed the host Deerfield Beach Bucks (Deerfield Beach, FL), 71-43 in Friday's non-league test.
The Explorers (24-4) will now prepare for their test against Colonial (Orlando, FL). The Grenadiers go into the non-league test with a 24-6 record. In their last test, Colonial walloped Evans (Orlando, FL), 76-61, in a non-league test.
The Bucks now own a 24-5 record.
First Quarter
The quarter was marred by turnovers and adrenaline-infused shooting (lots of misses of easy put backs on the Explorer's side) and from the Deerfield side they were having trouble in that their shots were being rejected, with 6 blocked shots in that quarter alone of Deerfield shots.
Second Quarter
Columbus was still turning the ball over trying to contend with Deerfield's quickness on Defense, but the stingy Explorer defense allowed just 5 points.
Third Quarter
Trailing by 10 to start the 3rd, the Bucks needed to win this quarter to bolster their confidence and put some pressure on the Explorers in the 4th. They came up short (17-12)
Fourth Quarter
Columbus flourished under a desperate Deerfield Buck's press, traps and double teams by finding the open man and draining 3 threes and 6 twos, and making 12 or 14 free throws.
