Newton County Cougars (Decatur, MS) fans exited the stadium thrilled Saturday as they saw their softball squad achieve victory over the visiting Ethel Tigers (Ethel, MS), 11-1 in a non-league challenge.

The Cougars now sport a 3-2 record. They take the field next when they travel to Quitman for a 4A Region 5 challenge on Tuesday, March 6. Newton County will face a Panthers squad coming off a 16-6 non-league loss to Meridian (Meridian, MS). The Panthers record now stands at 3-2.

With the loss, Ethel falls to 2-1 on the campaign. The Tigers host Nanih Waiya (Louisville, MS) to face the Warriors in a 1A Region 5 challenge on Tuesday, March 6. The Warriors enter the challenge with a record of 0-1. Nanih Waiya lost 16-0 in their recent non-league challenge against Kosciusko (Kosciusko, MS)
