Bronx, NY – Saturday brought the start of the 2023 baseball season and to celebrate the La Salle Academy Cardinals pitchers took a walk on the wild side issuing 11 walks while hitting six batters in a 0-9 loss against Cardinal Spellman in the Bronx. The same trio of pitchers (Manuel Ramirez, Eamon Moogan, Anthony Gonzalez), however, also combined to 1-hit the Pilots who play in the top tier ‘AA’ division of the CHSAA (Catholic High School Athletic Association).
Ramirez, go the start for La Salle and after a perfect first inning, an error at third sent him reeling as he walked or hit five of the next six batters before giving up a bases clearing turf triple (their only hit of the game, a soft liner that hit the turf then bounced over the right fielder’s head) for a 6-run advantage. Spellman then scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth off another error a walk and three hit batters by Moogan and closed out the scoring with another bases loaded walk in
