Game Summary
After 3 1/2 innings, the Lord Botetourt team left the field claiming that their players were allegedly being verbally abused by my players and Head Coach Greg Hupp loudly said that Cave Spring could have the "W", that they would forfeit rather than allow their players to be disrespected. They left before the game was finished. After the LB team had left the field, both of the the umpires said that they had heard no verbal abuse from my dugout.
Coach Hupp stated more than once in front of both teams and the umpires that they were forfeiting the game. According to NFHS Softball rules, "A game shall be forfeited to the offended team by the umpire when a team (LB) refuses to continue play after the game has started." Even though LB was ahead 3-2 at the time, by rule, since it was not a completed game. the score of the forfeited contest becomes 7-0.
