Northwest Rankin Cougars (Brandon, MS) backers exited the stadium thrilled Saturday as they saw their softball squad nip the visiting DeSoto Central Jaguars (Southaven, MS), 8-1 in a non-league challenge.

The Cougars now own a 16-0 record. They take the field next when they host Oak Grove for a 7A Region 3 challenge on Tuesday, March 26. Northwest Rankin will face a Warriors squad coming off a 9-2 league win over Meridian (Meridian, MS). The Warriors record now stands at 1-2.

With the loss, DeSoto Central falls to 13-5 on the campaign. The Jaguars host Lewisburg (Olive Branch, MS) to face the Patriots in a 7A Region 1 challenge on Tuesday, March 26. The Patriots enter the challenge with a record of 14-4. Lewisburg won 11-2 in their recent non-league challenge against Madison Central (Madison, MS)
