The crowd at Thursday's non-league battle between the Ellwood City Wolverine (Ellwood City, PA) and the host New Castle Hurricanes (New Castle, PA), saw Ellwood City's baseball team get by New Castle by a tally of 2-1.

The Wolverine (4-2) will now prepare for their battle against Riverside (Ellwood City, PA). The Panthers enter the WPIAL 3A 1 battle with a 4-0 record. In their last battle, Riverside held off West Allegheny (Imperial, PA), 4-1, in a non-league battle.

Next, the Hurricanes face the Mars Fightin' Planets (Mars, PA) in a WPIAL 5A 3 battle, on Monday, March 31. New Castle will attempt to upgrade on its 0-3 season record. The Fightin' Planets enter the battle with a 3-2 record after their 3-1 non-league win over North Hills (Pittsburgh, PA).
