Southwestern Piasa Birds (Piasa, IL) fans exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they saw their softball squad nip the host Father McGivney Catholic Griffins (Glen Carbon, IL), 6-1 in a non-league challenge.

The Piasa Birds now sport a 3-2 record. They take the field next when they travel to Jersey for a non-league challenge on Saturday, April 1. Southwestern will face a Panthers squad coming off a 7-5 non-league win over Carlinville (Carlinville, IL). The Panthers record now stands at 5-1.

With the loss, Father McGivney Catholic falls to 1-3 on the campaign. The Griffins host East Alton-Wood River (Wood River, IL) to face the Oilers in a non-league challenge on Friday, March 31. The Oilers enter the challenge with a record of 3-4. East Alton-Wood River lost 15-0 in their recent league challenge against Freeburg (Freeburg, IL)
