The Willows Honkers got by the host Corning Cardinals softball squad by a count of 4-3 in Wednesday's non-league battle.
The Honkers (13-4) will now prepare for their battle against Colusa (Colusa, CA). The Redskins go into the Sacramento Valley battle with a 18-2 record. In their last battle, Colusa nudged Chester (Chester, CA), 11-1, in a non-league battle.
The Cardinals now sport a 8-6 record. They play next when they host Lassen for a non-league battle on Friday, April 22. Corning will meet a Grizzlies squad coming off a 5-3 league loss to Oroville (Oroville, CA). The Grizzlies record now stands at 8-11.










The Lady Honkers came to play today and handed Corning a 4-3 loss in a non-conference game. Hegan Hughes started the game off with a base hit, stole second and moved to third on a single by Brianna Brothers. Ashley Love hit a sacrifice to score Hughes for the first run of the game. Brothers would move to third on a Katie Whitney single and then scored on a passed ball giving the Honkers a 2-0 lead after the first. Hughes led off the third with a single and moved all the way to third on a sacrifice bunt by Maira Jaramillo. Hughes would score on a double by Love who got her second RBI on the day. In the fifth, Hughes led off the inning with a walk and would later score on another RBI single by Love. The Honkers kept Corning off the board until the fourth inning. Two hits and an error led to a Corning run. They would score 2 more in the bottom of the seventh on a walk and 2 errors to keep the game close. The Honkers improve to 13-4 and 4-2 in league.
