California High School Volleyball - CHAMPS overwhelmed by Lake Balboa College Prep
April 15, 2024: Van Nuys, CA 91405 The CHAMPS Panthers volleyball team (Van Nuys, CA), went down 3-0 in Monday's non-league challenge with the visiting Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars (Lake Balboa, CA)
The Cougars (10-4) will now prepare for their challenge against Valor Academy (Van Nuys, CA). The come into the Central Valley challenge with a 10-12 record. In their last challenge, Valor Academy defeated Magnolia Science Academy Reseda (Reseda, CA), 3-0, in a league challenge.
Match Summary
The Lake Balboa Cougars won the cat fight against the Champs Panthers in a 3 game sweep in the Cougardome at Mulholland MS. The service woes of the previous match were cleaned up with 20 aces for the felines of Freddy but more importantly only 6 service errors. Daniel Ancheta & Armen Boursalian gave the Panther passers fits with 6 & 5 aces respectively. Despite early drama in sets 1 & 2, the Cougars experience showed as they eventually pulled away for the victories. Lake Balboa won with alacrity in set 3 led by Ancheta's .571 performance in the front row finishing at .296 for the match. The team only hit .153 for the day but kills still outnumbered errors 31 to 20. The defense nearly doubled Champs total digs at 43 to 22. Alex Rumelyan & Arturo Pelaez denied the Panthers 7 times each. The Cougar passing was rock steady as Ancheta & Pelaez passed nails 19 out of 24 tries making life easier for setters Narek Manukyan (17 assists) & Spencer Donovan (5 assists).
