Coaches Game Summary

Senior right hander John Meuchner threw 6 2/3 shutout innings while striking out 11 batters and only registering 2 base hits in a Sutherland 8 to 0 victory over rival Mendon.

The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 in the second inning when outfielder Ryan Hallowell hit a long solo homerun to left field. The score stayed that way until the 7th inning when Hallowell and Jeff Kay singled and Will Doggett laid down a perfect bunt that loaded the bases. Sean Menard then followed with a two run single to make the score 3-0. A misplayed Meuchner ground ball, Grant Heyman single, Jeff Kay single and two steals of home accounted for the rest of the runs and made the final 8-0.

Meuchner pitched out of a bases loaded with no outs jam in the fourth and then out of a 1st and 3rd situation to maintain a 1-0 lead.

Hallowell and Kay both finished with 2 hits apiece.

Sutherland is now 1-0 in Division III play and 7-1 overall.
