New York High School Baseball - LaSalle Academy gets by Mt. St. Michael Academy
April 23, 2022: Bronx, NY 10466 LaSalle Academy Cardinals (New York, NY) fans exited the stadium thrilled Saturday as they observed their baseball squad overcome the host Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers (Bronx, NY), 9-6 in a non-league test.
With the win, LaSalle Academy upgrades its record to 2-5 on the season. The Cardinals travel to Sacred Heart (Yonkers, NY) to battle the Irish in a Catholic A - North test on Tuesday, April 26. The Irish come into the test with a record of 0-4.
With the defeat, Mt. St. Michael Academy falls to 0-3 on the season.
Game Summary
On a gorgeous Saturday in the Bronx, the La Salle Academy held off Mount St. Michael, 9-6 in a CHSAA cross-division game. The Cardinals scored early, four in the second, and three in the seventh to secure the win over the AA (Division) Mountaineers.
Eight out of nine Cardinals in the starting line up recorded hits, including Izzac Garcia (three) and Xavier Guzman (two) as La Salle pounded out 11 hits for the game. Manuel Ramirez got the start for La Salle and was solid in three and two-thirds innings. Freshman, Anthony Rodriguez picked up his first varsity win in relief and Guzman picked up the Save after inducing and 1–3-line drive double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to end the game. For that and his two hits and 1 RBI, Xavier, was awarded the Angry Bird as La Salle’s player of the game.
On Deck: Next week the Cardinals are back into division play at Sacred Heart on Tuesday then they host St. Edmund Prep on Thursday.
