Washington High School Softball - Lincoln holds off Lakes
May 2, 2023: Lakewood, WA 98498 Spectators at Tuesday's league match between the Lincoln Abes (Tacoma, WA) and the host Lakes Lancers (Lakewood, WA), witnessed Lincoln's softball squad tip Lakes by a count of 9-7.
The Abes now sport a 7-4 record. They play next when they host Spanaway Lake for a 3A Pierce County match on Thursday, May 4. Lincoln will face a Sentinels squad coming off a 12-7 league loss to Lakes (Lakewood, WA). The Sentinels record now stands at 4-9.
The Lancers now possess a 7-9 record. They play next when they travel to Spanaway Lake for a 3A Pierce County battle on Wednesday, May 3.
Game Summary
Lakes Varsity Softball comeback bid falls just short in loss to Lincoln High School (Tacoma) 9 - 7
Lakes got on the board in the first inning. Kaitlyn Vazquez doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run and managed to 3 runs in the first to take an early lead. Lincoln scored runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings to cut the lead to 1. Lincoln scored 2 in the 5th to take the lead but Lakes battled back to score 2 of thier own in the 5th to retatke the lead.
A 3 run home run in the 6th led to a 5 run inning and a 4 run lead for Lincoln.
Lakes comeback bid fell short as they scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to cut the lead to 2 and had the tying run on 2nd and 3rd when the final out of the game was made.
