In Thursday's non-league match, the host Quitman Panthers football squad scored a close 7-6 victory over the Meridian Wildcats.

In their next game, the Panthers clash with the Heidelberg Oilers (Heidelberg, MS) in a non-league match, on Friday, September 1. Quitman will attempt to move on its 1-0 season record. The Oilers enter the match with a 1-0 record after their 54-28 non-league win over Perry Central (New Augusta, MS).
