The Vernon Lions (Vernon, TX) football defeated the host City View Mustangs (Wichita Falls, TX), 40-20 in Friday's non-league bout.

In their next game, the Lions face the Gatesville Hornets (Gatesville, TX) in a non-league bout, on Friday, September 1. Vernon will attempt to move on its 1-0 season record. The Hornets enter the bout with a 1-0 record after their 34-27 non-league win over Taylor (Taylor, TX).
