August 29, 2025: Monticello, IA 52310 The crowd at Friday's non-league contest between the Mt. Vernon Mustangs (Mt. Vernon, IA) and the host Monticello Panthers (Monticello, IA), witnessed Mt. Vernon's football squad wallop Monticello by a tally of 56-12.
The Mustangs (1-0) will now prepare for their contest against Benton (Van Horne, IA). The Bobcats enter the non-league contest with a 1-0 record. In their last contest, Benton smashed Fairfield (Fairfield, IA), 29-12, in a non-league bout.
The Panthers now own a 0-1 record. They play next when they travel to Beckman for a non-league bout on Friday, September 5. Monticello will encounter a Trailblazers team coming off a 49-6 non-league win over Columbus (Waterloo, IA). The Trailblazers record now stands at 1-0.
