Fleming Island Golden Eagles (Orange Park, FL) backers left the game in high spirits Tuesday as they observed their volleyball squad hold off the host Buchholz Bobcats (Gainesville, FL), 3-2 in a league match.

Next up, the Golden Eagles battle the Creekside Knights (Jacksonville, FL) in a 7A District 4 match, on Thursday, September 3. Fleming Island will attempt to better on its 3-0 season record. The Knights come into the match with a 3-0 record after their 3-1 league win over Bartram Trail (St. Johns, FL).

With the loss, Buchholz drops to 1-2 on the campaign. The Bobcats travel to Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville, FL) to battle the Crusaders in a non-league match on Wednesday, September 2. The Crusaders come into the match with a record of 2-0. Bishop Kenny won 3-0 in their recent league match against Ribault (Jacksonville, FL)

There were a lot of note-able performances in this 5 set war. For Fleming Island Ally Smith, the "go to" person tonight, led the offense with 16 kills, she added 3 aces, 15 digs, 2 assists and 28 returns of serve. Jazmine Houston also had a significant night as she added 19 assists, 4 kills, 17 digs and 19 serves, one of which was an ace, with no errors. Olivia Rutledge had a very solid all around night with 11 kills, 3, assists, 16 digs, 2 aces on 17 serves, and 30 return of serve. The clutch Hero of the night though may be Shelby Hackett who led the team in assists 21, aces 3, had 11 digs, and 8 kills but the "Clutch Performance" occurred in the 5th set with the Lady Eagles down 9-14. Shelby calmly served the next 7 serves recording an ace, 2 digs, 1 kill, and 2 assists giving Fleming Island the conference win! Macey Gardella ended the night with the final kill and a total of 9 kills, 4 blocks, 2 digs and 1 ace. Sydney Bates led the defense with 24 digs.
