Maryland High School Volleyball - Atholton routed by Glenelg
September 3, 2021: Glenelg, MD 21737 The Glenelg Gladiators volleyball team scored 3 points and limited the visiting Atholton Raiders to 0 in the Gladiators league victory on Friday.
The Gladiators now have a 1-0 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Marriotts Ridge for a Howard County game on Friday, September 17.
The Raiders (0-1) will now prepare for their game against Reservoir (Fulton, MD). The 'Gators enter the Howard County game with a 1-0 record. In their last game, Reservoir gained a win over Long Reach (Columbia, MD), 3-0, in a league game.
Match Summary
Glenelg and Atholton were tight early on, but Glenelg started playing more in system and serving tough and capitalizing on finding the court after 13-12 in the first set and taking it 25-17 on some great scoring runs. in the second set, Glenelg was never behind and jumping early before winning 25-15. Atholton would not give up in the third set, tying it at 6-6 an keeping it close, but Glenelg was more successful in gaining mini-runs that would end the match at 25-16. Serving, defense, and having a hitting percentage over 300 were keys to the victory.
