In Friday's non-league match, the host Merkel Badgers football squad scored a close 29-26 victory over the Bangs Dragons.

The Badgers (2-0) will now prepare for their match against Hawley (Hawley, TX). The Bearcats go into the non-league battle with a 1-1 record. In their last battle, Hawley was tipped by Albany (Albany, TX), 21-7, in a non-league battle.

The Dragons now own a 0-2 record. They play next when they host Grape Creek for a non-league battle on Friday, September 12. Bangs will play a Eagles team coming off a 38-16 non-league win over Reagan County (Big Lake, TX). The Eagles record now stands at 1-1.
