Perquimans Pirates (Hertford, NC) backers were in high spirits Saturday as they observed their volleyball team hold off the host Oscar Smith Tigers (Chesapeake, VA), 2-1 in a non-league challenge.

The Pirates (13-2) will now prepare for their challenge against George C. Marshall (Falls Church, VA). The Statesmen enter the non-league challenge with a 3-8 record. In their last challenge, George C. Marshall got by Yorktown (Arlington, VA), 3-0, in a league challenge.

Next, the Tigers meet the Hickory Hawks (Chesapeake, VA) in a Southeastern challenge, on Thursday, September 18. Oscar Smith will attempt to upgrade on its 1-3 season record. The Hawks go into the test with a 6-6 record after their 3-0 non-league loss to Kellam (Virginia Beach, VA).
