Texas High School Volleyball - Frisco over Turner
September 15, 2023: Carrollton, TX 75006 Frisco Raccoons (Frisco, TX) supporters left the game in high spirits Friday as they observed their volleyball squad top the host Turner Lions (Carrollton, TX), 3-0 in a league match.
Next up, the Raccoons clash with the Creekview Mustangs (Carrollton, TX) in a 5A Region II District 9 match, on Tuesday, September 19. Frisco will attempt to advance on its 8-13 season record. The Mustangs come into the match with a 8-17 record after their 3-1 league loss to The Colony (The Colony, TX).
With the loss, Turner drops to 10-11 on the campaign. The Lions travel to Wakeland (Frisco, TX) to clash with the Wolverines in a 5A Region II District 9 match on Tuesday, September 19. The Wolverines come into the match with a record of 18-6. Wakeland won 3-1 in their recent league match against Lone Star (Frisco, TX)
Match Summary
The Lady Lions had a rough start hosting Frisco tonight, getting down 14-1 very quickly. After a crazy play by Lia Diaz, they finally broke the ice and started to play together. Despite their slight recovery, they fell 4-25. In the 2nd match, the Lions kept their energy high and fought back. With great saves by Grecia De La Garza and Leila Farda, accompanied by well timed hits from Dylann Barnwell, Yadira Rodriguez, Joslyn Olivares, and Abby Douglas-Foy, and smooth sets by Alondra Barcenas, the Lions gave the Raccoons a fight, but lost the 2nd set 9-25. Not deterred by their losses, The Lions came out determined and, with the help of great serves by Andie Flores and Daisy Rodriguez, help on defense by Sofia Dimas, and hits and saves by Addison Derrick, the Lions worked as a a whole team, losing 13-25 against one of the top teams.
