North Carolina High School Volleyball - Currituck County nudged by New Kent
September 17, 2022: Barco, NC 27917 The New Kent Trojans volleyball team scored 2 points and limited the host Currituck County Knights to 1 in the Trojans non-league victory on Saturday.
The Trojans now have a 7-4 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Albemarle School for a non-league game on Saturday, September 17. New Kent will meet a Colts team coming off a 3-0 non-league win over Bethel Assembly Christian Academy (Windsor, NC). The Colts record now stands at 10-1.
The Knights (6-6) will now prepare for their game against Northeastern (Elizabeth City, NC). The Eagles enter the Northeastern Coastal 2A/3A game with a 0-6 record. In their last game, Northeastern was nudged by Manteo (Manteo, NC), 3-0, in a league game.
Match Summary
In their fourth match at the Endless Summer Tournament in VA Beach, the Lady Trojans faced the Knights of Currituck County, NC a Class 3 team. The Knights coach, Christopher Ferretti, is well known to the New Kent coaches from club play and his teams are always well prepared. New Kent started strong, defeating Currituck 25-19 in the first set with DS Chloe Phillips seeing her first action of the tournament. In the second set, middle blocker Kaleigh Redman started with DS Abby McLaughlin spelling one of the outside hitters on the backrow. Currituck prevailed in this set 21-25. For the 15-point deciding set, the Lady Trojans made some lineup changes moving opposite Lexi Powell to OH and bringing in Ava Neito and McLaughlin at opposite. The changes worked with the Lady Trojans prevailing 15-10 in the tie-breaker.
