Kempsville had lost to Westover Christian in the penultimate match, leaving them with a 1-2 record and out of the running for the gold bracket playoff. The win ended Westover's pool play with a 2-1 record with a win over New Kent and loss to Indian River. Whichever team won the final match would end up tied with Westover. Indian River started strong, defeating New Kent 17-25 in the first set, but the Lady Trojans rallied in set two, defeating Indian River 25-19. New Kent jumped to an early lead on strong serving in the 15-point tie-breaking match and held on to take the win and move into a 2-1 tie for first place in the pool with Westover.
