Pennsylvania High School Soccer - Delone Catholic nudges York Country Day
September 19, 2023: McSherrystown, PA 17344 Delone Catholic Squires (McSherrystown, PA) supporters were pleased Tuesday as they observed their soccer team hold off the visiting York Country Day (York, PA), 3-2 in a non-league challenge.
Next, the Squires confront the Biglerville Canners (Biglerville, PA) in a York-Adams 4 challenge, on Thursday, September 21. Delone Catholic will attempt to move on its 7-2 season record. The Canners enter the challenge with a 5-5 record after their 5-0 league loss to York Catholic (York, PA).
The now possess a 3-4 record. They take the field next when they travel to Penn Manor for a non-league challenge on Friday, September 22.
Game Summary
Definitely a finish for the fans with a 3-2 win the game-winning goal scored with 1 second left in regulation. The Squires once again got down in the first half by a goal and had to comeback. Angello Salazar #7 started the Squires scoring off with a goal off an indirect kick with a 1-1 halftime score. A PK goal gave the Greyhounds a 2-1 lead early in the 2nd half. Five minutes later, Nolan Kruse #9 had a perfect cross over to Salazar #7 for the tying 2-2 goal. With one second left on the clock, Salazar made a cross and Will Holtz #5 ran behind the goalkeeper for the goal to win it 3-2. Coach's Player of the Game: As a freshman defensive player, Max Holz, has done a really good job in helping secure multiple shutout victories and wins this season. He guarded their best offensive player who was a constant threat well throughout the game.
