Fans at Tuesday's non-league contest between the Boyd County Spartans (Spencer, NE) and the host Niobrara/Verdigre Cougars (Niobrara, NE), observed Boyd County's volleyball team hold off Niobrara/Verdigre by a count of 2-1.

The Spartans (7-9) will now prepare for their contest against Burke (Burke, SD). The Cougars enter the non-league contest with a 17-1 record. In their last contest, Burke got by Tripp-Delmont/Armour (Armour, SD), 3-0, in a non-league contest.

In their next game, the Cougars encounter the Wausa Vikings (Wausa, NE) in a non-league battle, on Thursday, October 2. Niobrara/Verdigre will attempt to improve on its 6-9 season record.
