In Monday's non-league contest, the host Cardinal Newman Cardinals basketball team scored a close 54-49 triumph over the First Baptist School Hurricanes.

The Cardinals (8-7) will now prepare for their contest against Heathwood Hall Episcopal (Columbia, SC). The Highlanders go into the SCISA 4A Region I contest with a 10-4 record. In their last contest, Heathwood Hall Episcopal nipped Hilton Head Christian Academy (Hilton Head Island, SC), 57-52, in a non-league contest.
