January 2, 2025: Phelps, KY 41553 The crowd at Thursday's non-league challenge between the Johnson Central Golden Eagles (Paintsville, KY) and the host Phelps Hornets (Phelps, KY), observed Johnson Central's basketball team knock off Phelps by a score of 59-49.
The Golden Eagles (12-1) will now prepare for their challenge against George Washington (Charleston, WV). The Patriots come into the non-league challenge with a 2-4 record. In their last challenge, George Washington prevailed over Buckhannon-Upshur (Buckhannon, WV), 71-48, in a non-league challenge.
In their next game, the Hornets encounter the Pike County Central Hawks (Pikeville, KY) in a District 60 challenge, on Friday, January 3. Phelps will attempt to improve on its 9-3 season record. The Hawks come into the challenge with a 4-7 record after their 68-53 non-league loss to Susan Moore (Blountsville, AL).
