Illinois High School Basketball - Southwestern tops Metro-East Lutheran
January 31, 2024: Edwardsville, IL 62025 Fans at Wednesday's non-league challenge between the Southwestern Piasa Birds (Piasa, IL) and the host Metro-East Lutheran Knights (Edwardsville, IL), saw Southwestern's basketball squad knock off Metro-East Lutheran by a tally of 37-26.
With the victory, Southwestern improves its record to 11-16 on the campaign. The Piasa Birds travel to Carlinville (Carlinville, IL) to play the Cavaliers in a South Central challenge on Thursday, February 1. The Cavaliers come into the challenge with a record of 21-6. Carlinville won 54-50 in their recent non-league challenge against New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly (New Berlin, IL)
Next up, the Knights play the Maryville Christian Lions (Maryville, IL) in a Gateway Metro challenge, on Thursday, February 1. Metro-East Lutheran will attempt to improve on its 3-20 season record. The Lions come into the challenge with a 5-20 record after their 56-51 non-league loss to Dupo (Dupo, IL).
