Match Summary
The Phoenix Varsity squad came out ready to play, led by Seniors Kayla Zeiss and Nicole McWilson. Through the first two sets of the match, our play was organized, our digging and court coverage was solid, and we directed plays to our hitters, who came through with powerful hitting performances. Led by Laura Ave, our net defense was good, including two stuff blocks. Courtney did a great job covering the middle of the court. Starting in the 3rd set, though, the Lady Knights began rotating in some of their stronger players, who put more hitting pressure on us, and our girls fell into a slump. After losing the 4th set, we kept it fairly close in the final set, but gave up a late 5 point serving run to put us behind for good. In the end, our starting Varsity lineup put on one of their best performances of the season in the first half of the matchup. Powerful serving by Nicole led the way, and strong hitting by Laura, Ryleigh, Miley and Courtney kept the Lady Knights on their heels!
