November 2, 2022: Chatfield, MN 55923 The La Crescent Lancers volleyball team (La Crescent, MN), went down 3-1 in Wednesday's league challenge with the host Chatfield Gophers (Chatfield, MN)
The Gophers (26-2) will now prepare for their challenge against Cannon Falls (Cannon Falls, MN). The Bombers enter the non-league challenge with a 23-7 record. In their last challenge, Cannon Falls defeated Pine Island (Pine Island, MN), 3-1, in a non-league challenge.
Match Summary
Quarter final match at the Mayo Civic center. #3 seeded Chatfield had taken down #6 LeCrescent during the regular season. The Gophers and Lancers both struggled to find the court during the first match; both teams missing a handful of serves and several hits well outside the line. The Gophers eventually adjusted to the facility and were able to calm their nerves to secure a strong win.
Soph. Jaelyn LaPlante led the team with 17 kills and nearly as many digs (16.) Fresh, setter Harper Goldsmith controlled the tempo of the match with her wise setting choices finishing with 34 assists!
It was a group effort with Evy Goldsmith and Kara Goetzinger adding 6 & 9 kills respectively. Cora Bicknese was solid on defense and serve receive and finished with 19 digs. Harper, Alexis Hinckley and Trindy Barkeim all pounded out aces from the service line with a combined 13 aces.
