Artesia Pioneers (Lakewood, CA) supporters left the game happy Wednesday as they witnessed their basketball squad hold off the host Downey Vikings (Downey, CA), 62-58 in a non-league match.

With the victory, Artesia advances its record to 1-0 on the year. The Pioneers host Villa Park (Villa Park, CA) to meet the Spartans in a non-league match on Monday, November 24. The Spartans enter the match with a record of 2-2.

The Vikings now own a 0-2 record. They play next when they travel to Ayala for a non-league contest on Saturday, November 22. Downey will battle a Bulldogs team coming off a 73-72 non-league win over Aliso Niguel (Aliso Viejo, CA). The Bulldogs record now stands at 2-0.
